I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and started learning violin through the Suzuki Method at age 4. I found I really loved violin and music and as I went through high school I won several competitions, including the Alaska Youth Symphony, Anchorage Civic Orchestra, and Anchorage Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competitions. These successes spurred me explore my passion for violin further by pursuing a career in music.
This led me to the University of North Texas for my bachelor's degree where I was awarded a full scholarship to be one of four participants in the undergraduate string quartet fellowship program. We named ourselves the Frieden Quartet and together we were awarded a fellowship at the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival and competed in the finals of the Coltman and MTNA Chamber Music Competitions. This was an extremely rewarding experience and I look back on my time with the group fondly and am so thankful for the lifelong friends I made as a result of that amazing opportunity.
Upon graduating, I pursued a masters degree at the University of Colorado Boulder where I was awarded a prestigious teaching assistant position for Fritz Gearhart and the late Charles (Chas) Wetherbee. As part of that position I gave weekly lessons to the undergraduate students. I also had the opportunity to play for members of the Cleveland Orchestra and Takacs Quartet, as well as soloists such as Stefan Jackiw and . I also had the opportunity to go to the Aspen Music Festival on a full scholarship and was awarded honorable mention in the Ekstrand Graduate Competition.
I now play with many regional groups such as the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Boulder Opera, Boulder Symphony, and Longmont Symphony, as well as weddings and events, including playing with Andrea Bocelli at Red Rocks.
Teaching has been a part of my musical journey ever since high school and is my favorite part of being a musician. There is so much that can be gained from learning an instrument, whether or not you choose to pursue music. I would be honored to work with you or your child and share this amazing artform with them.
